I was going to share this news yesterday—and I don’t usually post on weekends—but i was hanging out with some good folks i’d not seen since September, so here’s my second bit of good news for this week:
my short story, “have mercy” won the student fiction award for 2019 in assignment magazine. the issue comes out this summer. I have some thank yous to share:
i’m grateful to robin wasserman, my second-semester mfa mentor, who assigned the exercise that led to this story. it was a pastiche of a novel, and I had a lot of fun writing it. it ended up becoming its own thing, but it would never have come to be without that assignment.
i’m also grateful to Adam wilson, who not only selected my story for the win and publication, but also helped me hone it, name it, and invited me to participate in a reading in New Hampshire last month. i’m planning to read again from this story in august—keep your eyes out for more details. I know that reading will be in Brooklyn, ny.
the publication link will be live on my website when the issue comes out.
